Detailed Information About Consultation
What issues can a migration attorney or lawyer consult on?
A migration law specialist can provide consultation on issues related to:
- immigration to Ukraine;
- emigration from Ukraine;
- visa processing for Ukraine;
- obtaining Ukrainian citizenship;
- deportation and expulsion from Ukraine;
- appealing decisions and actions of state authorities;
- residence permit processing;
as well as issues related to the above procedures.
What is the difference between a migration attorney and a lawyer?
An attorney is a lawyer who has completed special training, passed an exam, and received the right to practice law, confirmed by a certificate and ID card.
According to Ukrainian legislation, only an attorney can represent and defend the interests of a foreign citizen in courts and special bodies of Ukraine.
It is the attorney who can help in complex cases when there is a dispute with migration authorities, or facts of unlawful refusal to accept documents, or when going to court is necessary.
Moreover, the client's personal presence or notarized power of attorney is often not required. An attorney can represent interests based on a contract that can easily be signed remotely.
A lawyer can accompany migration procedures that do not require special control or intervention, representation in judicial, executive, or other bodies to which only an attorney has access.
Both a lawyer and an attorney can provide qualified consultation on migration issues, but if your case involves a legal dispute, we recommend seeking help from an attorney.
What exactly does the consultation provide?
1. Choosing the right strategy. Often a foreigner has several paths to legalization (through marriage, business, volunteering, etc.). The lawyer will analyze your situation and help select the optimal option.
2. Risk assessment. The specialist will check your documents and stay history to identify possible problems (expired terms, missing documents, fines) even before visiting the Migration Service.
3. Clear action plan. You will receive a step-by-step algorithm: which documents to collect, where to process them (civil registry office, notary, translator), within what timeframes to submit them, and how much it will cost.
4. Time and stress savings. Instead of spending time studying forums and laws, you will receive a digest of current information, which will be provided to you in writing.
5. Solving complex issues. If you have a non-standard situation (loss of documents, violation of terms, past refusal, etc.), template solutions may not work. The lawyer will help develop an individual plan, assess the situation, and describe possible legalization paths.
